Held only at Drepung Gomang monastery, that too once a year on the 16th day of the fourth month of the Tibetan Lunar Calendar, it is a popular saying that when gomang's thuk choera starts, then it usually rains or starts of monsoon. Thuk Choera is an interclass debate congregation where different monastic class debates against each other in the debate courtyard. Monk students in order to prepare or sharpen their debate or to make it difficult for the opponent class, used to go far away from the monastery compound in the fields with great secrecy to prepare the debate. On the morning of June 4th, auspicious Saka Dawa day, the 16th administration headed by Gungru Geshe Jampa Dhondup gave their three-year reports before the monks congregated at the Prayer Hall temple. The ceremony was graced by His Eminence Khen Rinpoche, tulkus/lamas, learned Geshe and all the monks of the monastery. Tibetan secretary read out the final report whereas Accountant submitted final accounting report.
H.E. Khen Rinpoche on behalf of the monastery express words of thanks to the 16th administration and honored them with certificates for the successful completion of their three-year tenure.
On the auspicious day of saga dawa 4th June, the members of the Choera construction (new debate courtyard) committee were felicitated for their seven years of selfless service on this project. Drepung Gomang Monastery and all its monks sincerely extend gratitude to all members for their hard work and successful completion, handing of choera (New debate courtyard) to the administration.
On 12th May 2023, Drepung Gomang School hold a ceremony at the prayer hall temple to felicitate the monk students who excel in the annual examination. His Eminence Khen Rinpoche, Discipline head, chant master, the administrators, DGBCA board of directors, School Principal, teachers, and all faculty attended this ceremony where rank holders were present with certificates and traditional Tibetan Khatak.
