Gegu, or the discipline head, is one who is responsible for the overall discipline of the monastery. He will be assisted by chapres (discipline assistants) The tenure of the Gegu and the assistants is for one year. After every one year, new Gegu (discipline head) is elected by the monks, whereas the two Chapre (the assistants) are not elected members, but are appointed on a rotation basis from the 16 khangtsens. Gegu (discipline head ) is changed annually on the 16th day of the fifth month of Tibetan Lunar Calendar, the day after Universal Payer day i.e., Zamling Chisang)

 

DISCIPLINE MASTER GESHE LHARAMPA KUNCHOK GYATSO (Gegu la 2024-2025)

Geshe Lharampa Kunchok Gyatso has served as director of the Administrative Office and Planning Commission. He has been elected as the discipline head of the monastery for one year and will be assisted by two monk assistants. 

 

CHANTMASTER/CHENMO LA OF DREPUNG GOMANG MONASTERY/DREPUNG TSOKCHEN

Ven. Kalsang Tsering @ Gelek joined Drepung Gomang Monastery in 2001 where he started his extensive studies on Five Major treatises. He received his Gelong vows (full ordination vows) from His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2016 at Drepung Monastery. He was elected as the chant master in May 2019 by the monks at the congregation. Appointed as chant master of Drepung Monastery (Whole Drepung Assembly) by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in June 2023.
