1. Annual Health Check up of Abbot, former abbots, senior Buxa monks, Text teachers at Hubli Rs.1,50,000/-
What we are today is largely due to the vision and guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and also the hard work of our senior buxa monks (Buxar is the name of first transit camp that our senior monks stayed when they reach India in 1959, it was before they were relocated here in 1970s). Now most are in their late 70s and late 80s, monastery has taken initiative to take all the senior monks and text teachers for annual health check-ups and screenings to a reputed hospital in nearby Hubli city. It will approximately cost Rs.1,50,000 for health check-up/screening of our Senior monks and text teachers.
2. Immunization/Screening of Hepatitis B: Rs.9,50,000/-
In order to safeguard monks from illness, we are proposing a health screening like Hepatitis B testing and TB screening for all the monks so that the monks will become aware of such illness, get proper immunization in advance. For 2150 monks, it will approximately cost Rs.9,50,000/-
3. 75% Medical Allowance For All Monks: approximate Rs.20,00,000/-annually
The small illness is treated by our dispensary but for the cases which need more medical attention and treatment, monks go for treatment from better-equipped hospitals and doctors in Hubli city and other cities. For these cases, the monastery has been reimbursing 75% on the medical bills that the monk incurs for his treatment. Sometimes the bills can cross several thousand for something like open-heart surgery and long hospitalization. The monastery has set up a Medical fund where donors are requested to donate so that these medical allowances are provided to the monks without failure on a quarterly basis. The allowance percentage depends on the availability of funds in this project. A minimum allowance of Rs.20,00,000/- is issued to the monks as a 75% Medical allowance annually.
The donations received for this project will be kept in a separate account and will be used for providing a medical allowance to the monks.
Introduction of Tibetan medicines
Besides providing monthly allowances, the monastery’s dispensary has been doing many great works:
- Inviting doctors/specialist doctors from cities and towns for check up of monk students.
- Visiting senior monks residence with the doctor, monitoring their health and keeping monthly check-up
- Charging only nominal fees for the medicines
- Providing doctor services totally free
- Providing dressing of wounds, sores freely
- Assisting patients when they go for further medical treatment.
